Chickens Come Home To Roost

Some students enjoyed "National Treasure 2" today, while others had to complete missing homework. The students have ample opportunity to complete his or her work during class, but some opted for other activities. There is some hope, on my part, that the kids will see the importance of self-discipline. This expectation is certainly presumed by high school teachers and, most certainly, by post-secondary professors.

Soldier of God

Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of Saint Joan of Arc. What a great model for our youth, especially young women. Called by God, through three of His saints, to lead France in battle against the English, she does His will and suffers as a martyr. St. Joan was betrayed by some of her countrymen, and a bishop of the Church. Joan remained faithful to the wish of Our Lord and was betrayed, scorned, and killed, as Our Lord was. Ask St. Joan for her intercession, especially on her feast day. St. Joan Pray For Us!

Party Time?

Few Americans remember the reason for this holiday. This Memorial Day has become just another day to party. An unremembered sacrifice does not bode well for any country. Pray for our soldiers, and remember those who sacrificed their lives for others.

Feast of St. Rita

Feast of Saint Rita today. Many have a devotion to this saint. She is known as the Saint of the impossible (like St. Jude). She is also known for her devotion to reconciliation, that is, to forgive. How often do we carry a grudge? She was able to bring her family and another family, some of whom murdered her husband, together for a reconciliation. Unfortunately, many will die with hatred on their souls. St. Rita, pray for us.

School Rosary

Good Shepherd will host a school-wide rosary at 2 pm in the Rosary Garden. There is much to pray for and give thanks to, and our intimate garden is the perfect place for communal prayer. We will recite the Glorious Mysteries. Today, was one of the rare instances when we will not have a morning rosary (due to the afternoon rosary), but we would like to make morning rosary for the kids a tradition at Good Shepherd. When the weather is a little warmer in the morning, we will say the rosary outside.

Got Prayer?

You God formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother's womb.
I praise you, so wonderfully you made me;
wonderful are your works!
My very self you knew;
My bones were not hidden from you,
When I was being made in secret,
fashioned as in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my actions;
in your books all were written down;
my days were shaped, before one came to be.
How precious to me are your designs, O God;
how vast the sums of them! (Ps. 139:13-17)

Can't Wait for the Picnic

It's almost time for Good Shepherd's picnic. This Sunday food and games await the parishioners as well as a world-famous band, or maybe, a Hillsboro-famous band. Hope that your family can be there to support the entire parish.

May Crowning

Two kindergarten students placed a crown of roses on the statue of Mary at this morning's Mass. A few students continue to show up at the daily rosary. Encourage your son or daughter to say the rosary at 7:35 am in the school basement.

Beautiful Day for a Test!

The 5th & 6th grade students will have two days to complete a Math test. Yesterday, the teacher covered every possible type of test problem. The students were allowed to take notes and use them during the test. The kids were allowed to ask questions about any uncertainties. You would be surprised at the number of students who did not take notes!

Month of Mary

Rosary is still recited each morning at 7:35am. There is still a group of students who come faithfully every morning. Please reinforce the importance of prayer.

Each Wednesday during May there will also be a school-wide rosary. This morning the rosary was followed along by teachers and students to a rap. The young man who created this version is trying to appeal to younger men and women. The creator is a college student. Many of the kids enjoyed, others were a little uncertain. Expressions can vary and any version may not appeal to all, but the intention was reverent.

"Mary, conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee."

6/5th Grade Math Test

Math Test for 6th & 5th grades will be either Thursday or Friday of this week. The day before, there will be a review of each type of problem on the test. The students may take notes and use those notes on the test. Many students are unwilling to take notes and may suffer during the test. This assessment should be a breeze for those who put in a little effort.

Math Test for 7th & 8th Grades

The seventh and eighth grade's thoughtful teacher conducted an in-depth review for the test tomorrow. Each type of problem or question was provided on the board. The students may use the notes they took during the review or notes from their books. Some took notes, many did not. The students may not ask the teacher for help except to clarify any illegible words or numbers.
